PSJH Clinical Academy Update

November 14, 2018

The PSJH Clinical Academy began in April 2016 with six specialty tracks (Perinatal, Emergency Department, Critical Care, Perioperative, Medical-Surgical, and Telemetry) plus Core Fundamentals (the heart of the nurse residency program) and a Preceptor Program. Since then, the Clinical Academy has expanded to include 23 specialty tracks and has enrolled over 4,370 nurses in the program. First year turnover for nurses in the Clinical Academy is 8.87% (August 2018 data) compared to 19.0% for nurses not in a Clinical Academy program saving the organization approximately $19 million dollars in avoided turnover costs* since April 2016.

PSJH Clinical Academy would like to thank all the clinical nurse educators and preceptors on the local education teams for your partnership in developing, implementing, and evaluating these programs. We are grateful to work with you and together we are making a difference to the new nurses joining the profession and our organization!
